Last week, Morocco paid tribute to the Jewish community and its spiritual leader, Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, chief rabbi of the Jewish community in Morocco. According to Diario Judio, the event took place at the Al Qarawiyyin University.

Rabbi Pinto was honored for his activities within the Jewish community in Morocco over the years and commitment to the links between different religions. The meeting was attended by the rector of the university, Amal Jalal, the vice president Mohammad Adiwan, the heads of the local council of Fez and other senior officials.

«Rabbi Pinto blessed those present and congratulated King Mohammed VI for his inexhaustible help to the Jewish community in Morocco at all times and especially during the period of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic», the same source added.

The same source, which recalls the resumption of relations between Morocco and Israel, notes that the Israeli and Moroccan embassies in Washington will organize, on Sunday, the first joint celebration of Mimouna in collaboration with Sephardic Heritage International and the Smithsonian.
