Spanish-Moroccan Sanaa Khouja, 33, launched a canned wine project last year, after having worked for five years in a vineyard in Priorat (Catalonia). Director of operations, she also knew what it meant to harvest, pick the grapes, pamper them, writes El Espanol in an article devoted to this woman who arrived in Spain from Morocco when she was only 15 days old.

«In 2018, I decided that I wanted to stay in the wine industry but in a more innovative environment. The world of wine is very traditional and even more so here, where innovation is not very welcome», she said. When Sanaa Khouja went to the United States, she saw how «everyone in the house had access to these wine cans». She then started a quest for information, on special cans intended for wine, the different products, the compatibility of the wine with the can, and its longevity.

Her proposal was then clear : «canning quality wines, such as Spanish monovarietals, with an international vision» for customers that cannot afford a bottle of wine. Her brand Zeena was then born.

«The surprise is that our first production was sold 100% on the national market last year, via the website and restaurants ... It is now that we are preparing an entire block for the Latin American markets and Europe», she said.

«By trying it, all doubts go away since Zeena are quality monovarietals that you will only find in this can», says the newspaper.

Moroccan-born, Sanaa Khouja admits that she told her family that she worked in the food industry for the five years she worked in the Priorat cellar. But today, she is even supported by her mother, concludes El Espanol.
