The leading figure of the Hirak Nasser Zefzafi announced on Thursday his resignation from the leadership of the movement. In a letter sent from his cell in the Tangier prison and shared by his father Ahmed Zefzafi, he explained that he «renounces the heavy responsibility» of the role imposed by the situation at the time. «I leave room for others, hoping that they succeed where I failed», he added.
As for the reasons behind his decision, Nasser Zefzafi, sentenced to 20 years in prison, explained that he had assumed responsibility as a Hirak activist for more than four years and he always made sure to see «his welded compatriots and not as the enemies of Rif want to see them».
«However, my dreams evaporated when worthy Jahiliya (Pre-Islamic Period) struggles broke out among those obsessed with leadership, fame and self-love», he concluded.
