An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurs 51 km northwest of Essaouira

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 hit earlier on Friday, April 23, at 1:59 am near the city of Essaouira, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.

The quake was located at an intermediate depth of 80 kilometers. According to Volcano Discovery, «towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Essaouira (pop. 70,600) located 51 km from the epicenter».
