Morocco’s interest in Cuban expertise in medicine was at the heart of a meeting held Saturday, May 1, between the Havana ambassador in Rabat, Javier Dómokos, and the Minister of Health, Khalid Aït Taleb.

The diplomat expressed on this occasion, «the willingness of his government to share its experiences in the fields of health and biotechnology» with the kingdom, indicates Prensa Latina, citing Cuban diplomatic sources.

During the talks, Dómokos praised Cuba's potential in the field of biotechnology and scientific research, adds the same source. The talks also focused on the fight against Covid-19 and its variants. Havana is currently developing five vaccines to fight the virus, two of which, are in phase III.

This meeting took place two weeks after the King Mohammed VI launched the generalization of social coverage. A project which provides for the lifting of the ban imposed by law 131.13, allowing foreign doctors to practice in Morocco.

Morocco and Cuba restored diplomatic relations in April 2017, after a 37-year break unilaterally decreed on April 22, 1980 by Rabat after La Havana recognized «SADR».
