On Tuesday, May 4, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune phoned the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, indicates the Algerian presidency in a press release.
The talks focused on «bilateral relations between Algeria and Italy and the means to develop them in various fields», adds the same source. During this telephone call, the two officials also addressed «regional and international issues of common interest», particularly «Western Sahara».
The talks come only days after the name of Staffan De Mistura, a former Italian minister, was mentioned as a possible candidate for the post of personal envoy to Western Sahara.
For once, Algeria has not refused this new candidate, as was the case for the former Romanian Prime Minister, Petre Roman, and the former Portugal Foreign Minister Louis Amado.
