Expecting septuplets, a young Malian woman ended up giving birth to nine babies in Morocco. On Tuesday, the Malian government announced that the five girls and four boys were doing well.

Originally from Timbuktu, the mother was initially taken care of in Bamako. On March 30, she was transferred to Morocco, for better monitoring of her pregnancy.

The delivery was carried out by cesarean section, giving birth to «nine newborns instead of seven as announced by the results of ultrasounds made in Mali and in Morocco», said the Malian Ministry of Health, in a statement quoted Les Panafricaines.

The Minister of Health Fanta Siby said the Malian doctor who was accompanying the mother to Morocco had informed her. While waiting for the return of the young mother, the person in charge congratulated «the medical teams of Mali and Morocco, whose professionalism is at the origin of the happy outcome of this pregnancy», while wishing «a long life to the babies and to the mother».
