This Sunday morning, two Royal Air Maroc (RAM) planes took off from Mohammed V airport in Casablanca bound for China, to deliver batches of the vaccine against coronavirus, developed by Sinopharm. These will be the third and fourth shipments of the kind this weekend, as two other planes were freighted on Saturday to carry batches of the same vaccine.
Indeed, yesterday morning, two RAM planes left for China, to carry 500,000 injections acquired in April 30. These deliveries are part of the 10 million doses that Beijing has promised to deliver to Morocco between April and May.
As each plane is carrying 500,000 doses, Morocco will thus have secured 2 million doses over the span of two days, while the Ministry of Health intends to accelerate the rate of vaccination in the coming days. On Saturday, the Health authorities announced that the national vaccination campaign against the coronavirus would be extended to the 50 to 55 years-old age group.
As of now, the number of doses acquired by the Kingdom from Sinopharm laboratories and the Serum Institute of India is totaling 11.5 million. These last four deliveries come the day after the WHO's approval of the Chinese vaccine for emergency use.
