Army Radio or Galei Tzahal, an Israeli radio network operated by the Israel Defense Forces, commented this week on Saadeddine El Othmani's recent statement, calling Israel's recent military aggression in Al Quds, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank «war crimes». The media claimed that the head of the Moroccan government has surrendered to «pressure».

On its Twitter account, the Israeli radio noted that «public pressure to expel the head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat prompted the head of the Moroccan government Saadeddine El Othmani to severely attack Israel». It recalled that El Othmani described the operation as a «war crime and continuous and horrific violations».

In an interview with Al Jazeera, the head of government said that the Kingdom of Morocco is aligned «today with Palestinian law and supports Palestinian steadfastness». While condemning the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip and the violations he described as «horrific», he declared that the «continued massacres of civilians and attacks on the press» are «war crimes».

On the same token, the head of government called on the international community to immediately stop these abuses and show solidarity with the Palestinian people. «All Moroccan initiatives in favor of Palestine have been activated. Yesterday, the support arrived in the West Bank via Jordan, and the support will reach Gaza in a few hours», he reported.

Demonstrations and calls for the departure of the head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat

In Morocco, many voices have denounced the Israeli attacks, demanding the expulsion of the head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat and the cancellation of the normalization agreement signed between the Kingdom and Israel in December.

Last Tuesday, the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) even demanded the expulsion of the Israeli diplomat from Morocco, and to summon the head of the Moroccan liaison office in Tel Aviv, during a session in the House of Councilors.

On Sunday, protests were organized in some 50 Moroccan cities, in which Moroccans condemned the normalization of relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv, while others burned the flag of Israel.

The National Action Group for Palestine also announced the organization of a national march on Sunday, May 23, 2021 in Rabat, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to condemn the normalization agreement.

It is worth mentioning that David Govrin, head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat, has left Morocco. On his Twitter account, David Govrin explained that he was forced to travel to Israel to be with his father who is in the hospital. The diplomat said that he would return to Morocco right after the celebration of Shavuot, a Jewish holiday celebrated this year between May 16 and May 18.
