The crisis between Morocco and Spain was addressed during a press briefing by the spokesperson of the US Department of State on Wednesday, May 19.
«The United States continues to promote humane, orderly, and fair forms of migration through bilateral and multilateral diplomacies as well as targeted capacity-building programs. And on this, we support both Spain and Morocco to work towards a resolution together», Jalina Porter said.
The position of the United States contrasts with that of some officials at the European Commission. The Vice-President of the EU body, Margaritis Schinas, said on Wednesday that «Europe will not let itself be intimidated by anyone (…) Ceuta is Europe, this border is a European border and what is happening there is not a Madrid problem, it's everyone's problem».
