Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya said her country's stance on the Western Sahara question would not change after more than 8,000 people entered Ceuta from Morocco.
Linking what happened in Ceuta to the hospitalization of Brahim Ghali in Spain under a false identity, she insisted that «neither the fact of receiving the leader of the Polisario Front, nor the Moroccan pressure will change Spain's position».
In an interview with the National Radio of Spain (RNE), the minister stressed that her country had «always been very careful in its position by favoring a political solution under the auspices of the United Nations». «The Spanish position has not changed. Spain is a country which respects international law», she added.
Regarding the current situation in Ceuta, the minister said that the reason behind what happened was a «unilateral response» from Morocco to the reception of the Polisario leader in Spain, which Madrid does not consider a «hostile position» to Rabat.
«We will be firm in defending the safety, security and integrity of our territories», she promised.
