Soufiane El Bakkali, the Moroccan track and field run, just signed the World Best Performance of the year in his category, 3000 m steeplechase, Thursday in the Florence meeting in Italy. The Moroccan athlete finished the race in 8:08:54, followed by the Ethiopian Bikila Tadese Takele (08:10.56), and the Moroccan Mohamed Tindouft (08:11.65).
«I am very happy about this victory. The next race will be in Monaco. I hope I’ll be able to finish the race under 8 minutes», said the Moroccan athlete after his performance. At the Doha meeting last year, El Bakkali finished third in 1500 m steeplechase.
The Moroccan’s performances rank him first for this year’s Diamond League in 3000 m steeple. It is worth mentioning that El Bakkali is still holding his place as the 10th fastest runner in history in this category, after he ran the 3000 mSC race in 2018 in Monaco in only 7:58.15. The Moroccan Brahim Boulami stays the fourth-fastest man in history after his 7:55.28 in 2001.
