A call center employee, arrested in Morocco on November 27 for cyber extortion and fake bomb threats, is believed to have targeted several facilities in Canada.

Arrested following an investigation conducted by Morocco’s National Bureau for Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, the 42-year-old Moroccan is believed to be behind bomb sent to several schools and institutions in Ontario, Canada.

The Ontario Provincial Police announced, in November, that several schools and public facilities in the Canadian province «received threats, indicating that bombs had been placed at their locations».

«The threats also included a demand for money in exchange for details about the alleged explosives» police said, adding that no explosives were ever found.

The same individual is also responsible for similar threats that targeted schools in Belgium, police say.

In Morocco, investigations revealed that, indeed, the individual in question, had sent bomb threats to several facilities in Morocco and abroad.

Field investigations and technical expertise led to the identification and arrest of the suspect in Casablanca and revealed that the e-mails sent contained the bank account number of a Moroccan national living abroad, with the intention of taking revenge on the latter for disputes that had arisen between them during previous commercial transactions.

The suspect was taken into custody to complete the judicial investigation being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to elucidate the ins and outs of this case.
