A Moroccan citizen known as A.M.F successfully underwent a heart transplant in a hospital in the town of Crooke, Ireland. According to local media, the Moroccan man who works at the airport previously suffered serious health problems last June, which had convinced him that «he was going to die».
A solidarity campaign was then launched to support the young man, raising more than €5,500 to help his family while he was in hospital.
The Moroccan national was placed on the organ donation list in late October, and spent nearly three weeks fearing that every day could be the last day of his life. According to doctors, a heart transplant was his only hope for survival. «I was scared to go to sleep in case I never woke up. I had no hope, nothing», he recalled.
He noted that waiting for a new heart was devastating for him and his family, as it exhausted him physically and mentally as he spent countless hours stuck in his hospital room.
On Saturday, November 11, a surgeon finally told him that the operation would be carried out within a few hours. After the successful transplant, the national remained two more weeks in hospital.
After his recovery, the patient and his family thanked his community for the money raised on their behalf.
