Algeria will organize, on December 17 and 18 in Oran, its yearly forum on supporting the Polisario Front, intended mainly for the African members of the Security Council. For the 10th edition of the meeting, organizers are counting on the presence of eight African foreign ministers and representatives of member countries of the African Union Peace and Security Council. Morocco will be «discussed» according to the event's agenda.

«This year's edition is being held as Moroccan hostility has recently gone beyond traditional bilateral relations, going so far as to demonize Algeria and create problems with its neighbors, particularly in the Sahel region (…) A new and dangerous provocation which adds to the Moroccan maneuvers targeting the security and stability of Algeria», writes Echoroukonline.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called, yesterday in a press release, the Malian factions to remain faithful to the Algiers agreement of 2015, which is the only «appropriate framework for the resolution of the crisis in this country and the preservation of its sovereignty», reports the same source.

The Oran meeting comes as Algeria is expected to assume, in January 2024, its mission as a non-permanent member at the UN Security Council. The neighboring country will sit alongside Mozambique, a state close to the so-called «SADR», and Sierra Leone, a country which recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.

On the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, organized in September in New York, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs held a meeting with his counterparts from the Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Sierra Leone and Guyana, all new members of the UN executive body.
