Aminatou Haidar to appeal after Spain refuses to renew her residence card

The lawyer of Aminatou Haidar plans to appeal against the decision of the Spanish authorities which refused to renew her temporary residence card. «It's a political decision, there is no reason to justify the refusal. They claim that she submitted the renewal application after the required timeframe, which was not the case», lawyer Fatma El Ghalia told media.

The lawyer accused the Spanish authorities of putting «pressure» on her client. «Yes, she was constantly investigated and asked about her registration» on the list of residents of Jaén, a city in southern Spain, the lawyer said.

To renew her residence card in Spain, Aminatou Haidar requested the intervention of the the autonomous government of the Basque Country. «The plan was to put Haidar on a program for the protection of women. Haidar’s request was rejected while that of two Latin American women was accepted», a well-informed source told Yabiladi.
