The Polisario denounces meeting attended by Morocco and Sahel countries

The Polisario has commented on the meeting organized on December 23 in Marrakech, and attended by Morocco and Sahel countries. «What Morocco is doing in the Sahel is some sort of maneuver intended to deceive some African countries and create more instability and tensions in the region (…) A maneuver which aims to overshadow the successes of the Algerian approach to the Sahel», a senior Polisario member told Algerian media.  

«The Atlantic is a region at war which can only be addressed after the independence of Western Sahara», he added.

For the record, the Polisario denounced, in May 2022, the launch of technical studies for the construction of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline. The separatist movement then warned «the African Union against the dangers of such activities taking place in the territories of AU member states».

The Front also called on the pan-African organization «to assume its responsibilities in defending the sovereignty and wealth of its member states, in accordance with the charter of the African Union». A warning which did not prevent many African countries from joining the project.
