The new Algerian ambassador to the United States has taken up residence in Washington. After an acquaintance meeting, on December 26, with members of the diplomatic representation of his country, Sabri Boukadoum met on Thursday, January 4, with Johsua Harris, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, with responsibility for Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia.
«Honored to meet and looking forward to working closely on our shared bilateral and regional goals», wrote the American diplomat on X, Twitter formerly. «The meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of continuing to strengthen the bilateral relations and to discuss several regional issues of common interest», wrote the Algerian embassy in the United States on the same platform.
Joshua Harris first toured the region, in September, visiting the Tindouf camps, Algiers and Rabat. The diplomat returned in December to the region where he had talks with the foreign ministers of Morocco and Algeria, but without speaking with the leader of the Polisario.
Sabri Boukadoum, dismissed from his position as head of the Foreign Ministry during the ministerial reshuffle of July 7, 2021, was appointed, on October 30, 2023, Algeria’s ambassador to the United States. An announcement which came after the appointment, on October 19, by King Mohammed VI of diplomat Youssef Amrani, as Morocco's new ambassador to Washington.
