Bundesliga club Bayern Munich is reportedly concerned that its right-back Noussair Mazraoui would push through his calf injury to play at the 34th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), which will take place from January 13 to February 11.
Mazraoui is part of the final squad to compete in the upcoming football competition. The player is currently still in Munich getting the necessary medical assistance and he is expected to join the rest of the Atlas Lions, who arrived Sunday in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, by January 10 according to the Moroccan national football team's medical staff.
«At Bayern, they’re concerned that the defender wants to play despite his calf injury. Bayern understand that Mazraoui is proud of representing his country and that being at this tournament is very important to him, but are worried that he could aggravate his injury especially after what happened at the World Cup when he played through COVID and missed several months with a heart problem afterwards», reports sports media.
For the record, Mazraoui suffered muscle stiffness in his calf in December 2023. After his injury, Bayern announced in a statement that the team would play without Mazraoui in their upcoming matches.
