A Vox party parliamentary group has submitted a draft law for discussion to the Spanish Congress, urging the government to defend the territorial integrity of Spain, referring to Ceuta and Melilla.
The party claims that the presence of the two Spanish cities in North Africa constitutes one of the main problems in bilateral relations between Spain and Morocco. The draft law stresses the need of taking a firm stance in the face of the «annexation demands» of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The party denounced the Kingdom of Morocco's development of «a series of measures aimed at annexing Ceuta and Melilla to its territories, along with the rocks and islands under Spanish sovereignty», and claimed thousands of Moroccan nationals storming Ceuta in 2021.
The party condemned the «disrespectful» position of the Kingdom of Morocco towards their country and its «continuous refusal to recognize the Spanish territorial waters in Ceuta, Melilla, and the islands and rocks», and criticized what it called a Spanish official negligence.
«Morocco's position has always been one of contempt for the territorial integrity of our nation, which has manifested itself in unfounded allegations, and permitting, if not complicity, with irregular migration», the parliamentary group said, adding that the government of Spain «must unequivocally defend its sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla..., and must also protect the Spanish nationals residing or deployed there».
