The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khaled Ait Taleb, revealed Tuesday at the House of Councilors that 600 new doctors leave Morocco each year, immediately after graduating. He referred to a brain drain that adds to «the lack of human resources in the sector which framework law n°06.22 relating to the national health system, promulgated in December 2022, attempts to fill».

Ait Taleb indicated that the government decided to combat this phenomenon by decreeing important decisions such as: reducing the duration of training from six to five years, increasing the number of training centers and encouraging doctors to stay in Morocco after their training. The government also authorized foreign doctors to practice in Morocco.

For the record, the Minister of Health announced that 14,000 Moroccan doctors practice outside Morocco, including 6,000 in France alone. The Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) in its annual report for the year 2022, published in November 2023, warned against the situation, insisting that it could affect healthcare in Morocco.
