Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired, Wednesday January 10, a meeting of the High Security Council of Algeria, «devoted to examining the general situation in the country and the security situation linked to neighboring countries and the Sahel», reads a press release relayed by the local media.

«The High Security Council regrets the hostile actions against Algeria, emanating from a brother Arab country» in the region, but without naming it.

Before this meeting, the eastern neighbor's media accused the United Arab Emirates of souring Algeria's relations with the Sahel countries, notably Mali and Niger. Official sources have also told Radio Algerie that Abu Dhabi had granted «15 million euros to Morocco to finance fake news campaigns and create a climate of tension between Algeria and the Sahel countries».

In statements to Arab media last week, Algerian diplomatic sources pointed to «actions carried out by the United Arab Emirates against the interests of Algeria in certain regions».
