Morocco national team coach Walid Regragui has addressed the controversy sparked by criticism of midfielder Azzedine Ounahi's celebration after scoring against Tanzania, which some deemed «mockery» towards the Egyptian team.

In a statement following Thursday's training session, Regragui clarified, «Azzedine Ounahi’s celebration against Tanzania has nothing to do with the Egyptian team».

He further emphasized, «Egypt has a great team and great players. They are an example for us, and we should not exaggerate such things because respect is a duty. We have to stop stirring up controversy». Regragui reiterated, «We respect the people and the Egyptian team very much, and we hope they win, as we are brothers».

Meanwhile, Ounahi posted a picture on his Instagram story while watching Egypt's match against Ghana, showcasing his support for the Pharaohs.

Previously, Ounahi faced backlash from Egyptians and media for stating that the Egyptian team «doesn't play great matches, but knows how to manage them. They can score a goal from a free kick, and then the players fall right and left».

Responding to these remarks, Egyptian player Mostafa Mohamed declared during a press conference before his team's game against Mozambique, «I didn't hear what he said, but we have 7 championships and want to win the eighth title. If he said that, he must do what we do to win».
