Mauritania follows Tunisia in signing parliamentary cooperation protocol with Algeria

Following Tunisia's lead, Mauritania has signed a framework protocol for parliamentary cooperation with Algeria. The agreement, sealed on January 20th during Mauritanian Parliament President Mohamed Ould Meguett's visit to Algiers.

The agreement aims to «enhance parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, through exchanging visits, coordinating positions and providing training opportunities», in addition to «establishing a joint parliamentary commission which will meet annually», an official press release from the Algerian House of Representatives outlined.

Mauritania became the second Maghreb nation after Tunisia to enter such a formal agreement with Algeria. The Tunisian protocol was signed in October 2023 during a visit by the Tunisian Parliament President.

During his visit, President Ould Meguett expressed his admiration for Algeria's and President Tebboune's efforts «for the good of the region, its stability, and the defense of just causes in the world».
