Earthquake in Morocco : Over 57,000 families received monthly financial assistance

Over 57,000 families received monthly financial assistance, while 44,000+ benefitted from reconstruction aid, indicates a press release by the Prime minister cabinet on Wednesday.

As of January 31st, 2024, 57,596 families received monthly financial assistance (2,500 dirhams), and over 44,000 households received the first installment of reconstruction aid (20,000 dirhams). This comes after the quake killed over 2,960 people and destroyed 60,000 homes.

Reconstruction approvals have been granted for 30,000 housing units. Local authorities provided support to affected families, the same source added.

By January 29th, interventions completed in 4,233 housing units (out of 6,676 requests) while over 300 machines were deployed for clearance.

Progress was also made on opening roads and rural tracks, with ongoing repairs and improvements.

Distribution of 300,000 quintals of barley is underway, benefitting over 36,000 farmers.

The Moroccan government reaffirms its commitment to the optimal implementation of the recovery program, aiming to support affected communities and their return to normalcy.
