Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares' scheduled visit to Algeria on Monday, February 12th, has been postponed. Citing «agenda reasons,» the Algerian government informed Spanish diplomatic sources of the postponement on Sunday evening. No new date has been announced.

This news comes after Spain announced Albares' planned trip on Thursday, which aimed to solidify rapprochement between the two nations.

This thaw followed Algeria appointing a new ambassador to Madrid in October 2023 and announcing the termination of economic sanctions imposed in spring 2022 against Spain. The sanctions were a response to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's support for Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara.
