Niger Prime Minister, Defense Minister visit Morocco

Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine announced a «friendship and working visit» to Morocco on his social media platform X. He will be accompanied by Minister of State and Defense Lieutenant General Salifou Mody during the 48-hour trip.

This visit comes amidst complex regional dynamics. On December 23rd, Niger joined King Mohammed VI's initiative granting Sahel countries access to the Atlantic Ocean.

Notably, this move followed Algeria's meeting with Niger's then-Foreign Minister. Since then, Algeria has engaged in diplomatic efforts with Niger, sending a senior official on a «working mission» last week.

In contrast to Algeria's swift condemnation of the July 2023 coup in Niger, Morocco adopted a neutral stance, expressing confidence in Niger's people and institutions to overcome the situation.
