Once a celebrated golfer, two-time major champion Angel Cabrera, is set for a remarkable comeback at this week's Trophy Hassan II in Morocco. This return marks his first PGA Tour Champions appearance since 2020, following a two-year prison sentence in Argentina over assault charges, sports platform SB Nation reported on Monday.

The Argentine golfer, 54, etched his name in golfing history with wins at the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters. However, his career took a dramatic turn in 2020 when he withdrew from a tournament and Brazilian authorities arrested him. After extradition to Argentina and subsequent imprisonment, his release in August 2023 finally opened the door for a potential revival.

In December, the PGA Tour cleared Cabrera to compete, offering him a second chance. Now, Morocco beckons as he enters the prestigious Trophy Hassan II, hosted by Moroccan royalty and boasting a storied past with winners like Lee Trevino and Padraig Harrington. The tournament will be held between Feb 22 and 24, 2024.

This event, newly integrated into the PGA Tour Champions calendar, holds special significance for Morocco. Originally an official European Tour event, the pandemic forced its temporary cancellation. Its return, now under the Champions banner, signifies the country's commitment to the sport and its desire to attract marquee names like Cabrera.
