Spanish opposition party, the Popular Party (PP), has requested Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez appear before the Lower House of Parliament to explain his surprise visit to Morocco on February 21st.
Iberian media report that the opposition party seeks clarification on the visit's organization and the last-minute announcement (24 hours prior). Additionally, the PP, holding majorities in both houses, wants details on the topics discussed with King Mohammed VI and Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.
This request aligns with the PP's January proposal for parliamentary oversight of the government's foreign policy. The party wants to end «unilateral decisions contradicting Spain's historical positions» on international issues, potentially alluding to Sanchez's support for the Moroccan autonomy plan in Western Sahara.
The PP previously requested Sanchez's appearance after his April 2022 meeting with King Mohammed VI in Rabat.
