Polisario leader Brahim Ghali has expressed his desire for an official visit to Russia, emphasizing efforts to «develop relations between the two parties», according to excerpts of an interview published by Polisario media.

Ghali cited «traditional consultations» on «issues of common interest» as justification for seeking Russian President Vladimir Putin's involvement in resolving the Western Sahara conflict. Notably, Russia did not invite the Polisario to the recent Russia-Africa summit in July 2023.

Recent interactions include Ghali's November 16th meeting with Russia's ambassador to Algeria and a February 7th Polisario delegation's meeting with the Russian Foreign Ministry's Middle East and North Africa director.

Additionally, Ghali held talks with Irish President Michael D. Higgins last week in Dublin.
