In a video, PJD Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane made comments regarding French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal's sexual orientation during an internal party meeting in Tangier on Sunday.
Expressing astonishment at Attal's public declaration of homosexuality, Benkirane stated, «I do not recognize in this behavior France, the State of de Gaul, Mitterrand, and Jacques Chirac. What is happening in the world? And when you see what's happening in France, aren't you afraid for your country?»

For the record, Benkirane was Prime Minister of Morocco from November 2011 to March 2017.
This incident coincides with the upcoming visit to Morocco by French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, Attal's former partner.
A recent study published in France following Attal's appointment found only 20% of French people would be shocked by a president's homosexuality, a significant decrease compared to 40 years ago (61% in 1981).
