Algeria and France held a new session of political consultations in Algiers on Tuesday, chaired by the foreign ministries' secretaries general, according to Algerian media.

The meeting focused on an overall assessment of their political relations, including bilateral cooperation in areas like economy and movement of people, stated the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a communiqué.

One of the key topics discussed was the long-postponed state visit of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to France, which the Algerian side hopes to conclude soon.

In December, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf told Al Jazeera that «the conditions of this visit are not suitable», suggesting a lack of urgency at the time. However, Algeria agreed to launch a business council with France on February 7, reflecting a potential shift in relations.

This new consultation session comes a day after talks between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his French counterpart Stéphane Séjourné on February 26 in Rabat.
