In its February 27 meeting, the Spanish government approved a proposal to grant André Azoulay the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise. The decision, proposed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Education (both PSOE members), was published in the Official State Bulletin on February 28.

The decree awarding the distinction cites «the merits of Mr. André Azoulay» without elaborating further. While accessed by Yabiladi, the document does not mention his role as president of the Seville-based Three Cultures Foundation.

This award comes a week after the February 21 meeting between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and King Mohammed VI in Rabat. In February 2020, Azoulay was awarded the Solidarity and Concord medal by the Andalusian regional government, then led by the Popular Party. This decision drew criticism from the left-wing Adelante bloc, known for its support of the Polisario Front.
