A Rif separatist party opens representation office in Algeria

Algeria signaled a development in its stance on the Rif region with the opening of a representation for the «Rif Nationalist Party» in Algiers. A ceremony marked the occasion, held at a villa provided to the party.

This inauguration follows a period of engagement, as Algeria hosted initial meetings of the party's founders in early 2023. Notably, Algerian public media covered the party's launch in September 2023.

The party's spokesperson called for the Algerian government to open training centers to its members. «We seek treatment similar to other liberation movements», Jaber El Ghadioui (aka Yuba Adghinou) stated in a social media video.

The opening of the Rif party's representation has drawn attention to South Africa's prior engagement with the group. A delegation from the party visited Pretoria in November and met with senior officials from the ANC party.
