Morocco's Islamist party, the PJD, has refused to endorse the visit of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné, to Morocco on February 26. The party expressed «disappointment» with what it perceives as France's «hesitant and ambiguous position on the Moroccan Sahara question».

Despite this criticism, the visit was preceded by «the sending of signals on France's desire to open a new page in its relations with Morocco, in connection with the Moroccan Sahara issue», the PJD's general secretariat lamented in a press release published on Tuesday.

The PJD called on Paris to stop «repeating the same outdated declarations» and to «break clearly and definitively with unacceptable and unproductive hesitations and ambiguities, on an existential and determining question in the relations and foreign policy of Morocco».

In contrast, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed in Rabat that «Morocco can count on the clear and constant support of France (...) We have said it and I will say it again today, perhaps with more force : it is now time to move forward. I will personally see to it».
