Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (PJD) is again at odds with the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and left-wing parties, particularly the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), who disagree on Family Code reforms.

In a press release on Thursday, March 7, the Islamist party's general secretariat called its detractors «dissonant voices nostalgic for bygone practices and discourses».

The party affirms its commitment to using its institutional role to defend its views on societal issues, especially those concerning the national framework and constitutional constants. It concludes by sending a message of mobilization to all citizens and activists.

On March 3 in Casablanca, Abdelilah Benkirane warned against adopting provisions opposing Islam in the current Family Code revision. He urged his followers «to do everything necessary to preserve the family, even organizing a national march of millions of people to express their opinion».

He further accused the USFP's Driss Lachgar and the PPS's Nabil Benabdellah of opposing the Quran and the Maliki rite, but lacking the courage to publicly state this to Moroccans.

The PJD is preparing to hold its next congress, scheduled between April and May 2024.
