The French Communist Party, through the Mouvement Jeunes Communistes de France (MJCF), has inserted itself into the process of reconciliation between Rabat and Paris, which was initiated a few months ago.
Fearing a potential recognition of the Moroccan Sahara by President Emmanuel Macron, the comrades argue that France's «clear and consistent support» for the Moroccan autonomy plan, reaffirmed on February 26 in Rabat by Stéphane Séjourné, «undermines the efforts of the United Nations made since 1991 for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people».
Similar criticism of the newly appointed French Foreign Minister was expressed last week by the Polisario's «Minister of Foreign Affairs», Mohamed Sidati, in an interview with Marianne magazine.
The MJCF also demands «an end to French support for Morocco's colonization of Western Sahara. It calls on Emmanuel Macron to take a stance in favor of holding a referendum on self-determination for the Saharan people», states the organization in a press release published on the French Communist Party website.
Two weeks ago, the Spanish Communist Party advocated for «the organization of a referendum on self-determination» in the Sahara.
