The Australian Research Institute for Economics and Peace recently published the «Global Terrorism Index for 2023», which ranks countries based on the impact of terrorism. The index considers factors like the number of incidents, deaths, injuries, and property losses.
The index classified Morocco as a «very low risk» country, tied for the lowest ranking with several others. Countries ranked highest in the index suffer the most from terrorism.
Last year's report ranked Morocco 83rd, placing it in the «low risk» category alongside nations least affected by terrorism.
Within the Maghreb region, the report classified both Morocco and Mauritania as «very low risk», while Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya were classified as «low risk».
Established in 2012, the Global Terrorism Index uses data from the University of Maryland's «Global Terrorism Database» to track trends in terrorist attacks across 163 countries.
