A series of earthquakes rattle Al Hoceima coast, strongest at 4.5 Richter scale

Several tremors were recorded off the coast of Al Hoceïma on Friday evening, March 15, 2024, and Saturday morning. Earthquake monitoring platforms reported at least seven tremors in the Mediterranean Sea, with the strongest reaching 4.5 on the Richter scale.

The strongest earthquake occurred at 8:17 pm (GMT), followed by two aftershocks of 1.60 and 2.2 magnitude at 8:27 pm and 8:34 pm, respectively. Early Saturday morning, additional tremors of 3.2 and 3.5 magnitude were recorded at 12:04 am and 12:21 am.

Weak earthquakes measuring 1.7 on the Richter scale were also recorded Friday evening around 6:32 pm and 7:07 pm. Another one of 2.3 magnitude was recorded on Saturday at 11:11 am.
