Morocco Foreign Minister Nassser Bouirta received, Thursday in Rabat, the Kenyan Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Abraham Korir Singoei, who was carrying a message to King Mohammed VI.

This visit comes as Kenya is trying to mend diplomatic ties with Morocco, following a sour episode. After President William Ruto announced, on September 14, 2022, the day after his inauguration, the withdrawal of recognition of the self-proclaimed «SADR», ties with the separatist movement were resumed.

On March 8, the Kenyan President appointed Jessica Muthoni Gakinya as Ambassador to the Kingdom. Three days earlier, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, held talks in Rabat with his Kenyan counterpart, Ababu Namwamba.

In Rabat, the President's special envoy, Abraham Korir Singoei, visited the premises of the Kenyan Embassy. «We are focused on expanding economic, cultural and political cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco», he wrote on his X account. «At our new Mission in Rabat today, I encouraged our team to do more in leveraging existing cooperation frameworks between our two countries for optimal mutual benefit»’, Singoei added.

In December 2023, Kenyan senators asked the government to open an embassy in Morocco. The lawmakers said the move is primordial to mend diplomatic ties with the Kingdom.
