Morocco and the European Commission held a new session of political consultations Monday in Rabat. In a post on X, Twitter formerly, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that discussions «focused on the bilateral agenda and political issues of common interest».
The Brussels delegation was led by Hélène Le Gal, the former French ambassador to Morocco and current Director General for the Middle East and North Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS) since September 2022. This organization reports to the EU's High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Spain's Josep Borrell.
The EEAS recently reaffirmed, in a new report published on Friday, that the Sahrawi population benefits from the agreements between Morocco and the EU.
These political consultations come just four days after the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) issued opinions on an appeal submitted by the EU and two complaints regarding EU-Morocco agreements. One complaint was signed by the Polisario and the other by the French farmers union Confédération Paysanne.
Tamara Capeta's opinion on the case was also discussed at the informal meeting of EU fisheries ministers held in Bruges on Sunday.
