As requested by the People's Party (PP), the Spanish Prime Minister will appear before the Lower House of Parliament on April 10 to answer questions on his visit to Morocco on February 21. This announcement was made by the spokesman for the Socialist deputies, Patxi Lopez.
On February 24th, a group of PP MPs requested clarification from the Prime Minister on the reasons behind his short-notice trip to Rabat. They also wanted to know what issues Pedro Sanchez discussed with King Mohammed VI and Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, in the Moroccan capital.
On April 10, Sanchez will also face questions regarding the Royal Moroccan Navy's military maneuvers in Saharan waters and the delay in opening customs at Ceuta and Melilla.
Relations with Morocco are a topic that unites the right-wing and far-left formations in Spain. On March 14, MPs from United Left (Sumar), Basque parties PNV and Bildu, as well as Vox, backed a non-binding proposal by the PP, calling for a return to «consensus» and Spanish «neutrality» on the Sahara question.
