At the United Nations Human Rights Council, Friday, Morocco voted in favor of a weapons ban on Israel. The text, approved by 28 votes, and rejected by the USA, Germany, Argentina, Paraguay, Bulgaria and Malawi, «calls upon all states to cease the sale, transfer and diversion of arms, munitions and other military equipment to Israel... in order to prevent further violations of international humanitarian law and violations and abuses of human rights». 13 states, including France, abstained.

The non-binding resolution «condemns the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects by Israel in populated areas in Gaza» and the use of artificial intelligence «to aid military decision-making that may contribute to the commission of international crimes».

The text also condemned the «use of starvation of civilians as a method of warfare in Gaza» and demands Israel «uphold its legal responsibility to prevent genocide».

Morocco has been presiding of the UN Human Rights Council since January 10.
