The European Parliament has withdrawn photos celebrating the Polisario from an exhibition titled «A Place in the World». The event was opened, Wednesday, following a conference on «the future of peace» organized by the Spanish left-wing party Podemos.
The party's former leader, Pablo Iglesias, was present in his capacity as the owner of the online TV channel Canal Red. The Polisario representative in Madrid also attended the event.
Known supporters of the Polisario within the European Parliament use these opportunities to promote the group's separatist goals. In February, a majority of MEPs rejected an anti-Morocco amendment tabled by two Spanish far-left MEPs, Miguel Urban Crespo and Manu Pineda.
The proposal called for the European Parliament to pay «particular attention» in its human rights report to the situation «in territories claimed to be occupied». It specifically mentioned «Palestine and Western Sahara». The vote resulted in 386 against, 110 in favor, and 24 abstentions.
