New revelations regarding the cancelled match between Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) and Union Sportive de la Médina d'Alger (USMA) in the African Football Confederation Cup semi-finals have emerged in the form of a video posted on social media. The footage, which lasts around two minutes, refutes the Algerian version of events.
The video shows that the Moroccan players were indeed at the match and were preparing to enter the pitch despite the confiscation of their shirts. However, security guards led by USMA sporting director Taoufik Korichi blocked their path. Korichi, in a raised voice, repeatedly told RS Berkane officials and CAF representatives that RS Berkane's staging of the match with a full Moroccan map was «a violation of Algeria's sovereignty».
For the record, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Sunday evening that the cancelled match between RS Berkane and USM Alger «will be referred to the competent bodies».
