In the African qualifiers for the FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup, Morocco will face Algeria in a matchup on May 10th at Berkane Municipal Stadium (8:00 PM).

The return leg follows on May 17th at Salem Mabrouki Stadium in Algeria, according to a press release from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMR). The U-17 World Cup itself will be held in the Dominican Republic from October 16th to November 3rd, 2024.

This match takes place amidst heightened political and sporting tensions, with Algeria withdrawing from several tournaments held in Morocco. Notably, Algeria boycotted the African Artistic Gymnastics Championship (April 30th-May 7th) in Marrakech and withdrew entirely from the Arab U-20 Championship, whose final between Morocco and Kuwait was held Tuesday in Casablanca.

These withdrawals stem from the controversy surrounding the Renaissance Berkane club's jersey, which features the full map of Morocco.
