Morocco's tourist arrivals are expected to set a record in 2024, driven by growth from European markets, according to forecasts by Fitch Solutions research firm BMI.
BMI predicts a strong year for Morocco's tourism sector in 2024, with continued growth expected through the end of 2028. This growth will be driven by European tourists, especially from France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and Germany, as the primary source market for Morocco.
This trend is due to «the market's appeal as an affordable beach holiday destination for European travelers, particularly during colder seasons», wrote BMI.
In numbers, BMI expects a 15.3% year-over-year increase in arrivals for 2024, reaching 16.8 million visitors. This growth is expected to continue at an average annual rate of 6.2% until 2028, reaching as nearly 20 million visitors.
France will likely lead the pack during the upcoming four years, followed by Spain. Italy is expected to be third by 2028, and Belgium fourth.
While Europe remains dominant, Morocco will also attract tourists from other regions, including the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. «We believe that Morocco's tourism offering will also appeal to tourists beyond Europe, presenting an opportunity for the country to diversify its pool of source markets over the medium-to-long term», BMI explained.
Morocco's relatively low travel costs position it well to attract budget-conscious European tourists facing economic pressures. Morocco offers a variety of attractions beyond beaches, including culture, food, historical sites, adventure activities, and stunning natural landscapes. This diversity can help attract tourists with a wider range of interests.
