The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Spanish tourists visiting Morocco to avoid areas bordering Algeria. «In these areas, the proximity to the Algerian border can be problematic as it can be crossed unintentionally», explains José Manuel Albares' department in a notice published on Tuesday, May 14.
For the record, in August, the Algerian army killed two young Moroccans and wounded another while they were riding jet skis at sea near the maritime border with Algeria.
Spanish diplomacy states in its recommendations that «generally speaking, Morocco is a safe country for travelers. However, given the current international situation, particularly the instability in the neighboring Sahel region, the possibility of terrorist attacks against Western interests and nationals on roads, public places, and especially isolated rural areas, cannot be ruled out».
