A Moroccan asylum seeker who stabbed a British pensioner to death was sentenced to at least 45 years in prison on Friday, May 17, Associated Press reported.

45-year-old Ahmed Alid stabbed 70-year-old Terence Carney six times in the street in Hartlepool, northeast England, on October 15, 2023.

The court termed the stabbing an act of terrorism after Alid told police he'd killed Carney because «Israel had killed innocent children». «They killed children and I killed an old man», he said during questioning.

Alid also attacked his housemate Javed Nouri and assaulted two police officers. While Nouri survived the attack, Carney died after being stabbed six times in the chest, abdomen, and back. Alid was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and assault.

Alid, who claimed he acted in response to the war on Gaza, was arrested near the murder scene with a knife in his waistband.

Alid arrived in Europe in 2007, living in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and Austria before reaching the UK by ferry in 2020. He was arrested by police for lacking proper documentation and applied for asylum.
