Gabriel Attal, the French Prime Minister, could travel to Morocco in the coming weeks. French daily La Tribune reported on Sunday, May 19, that Attal will make an official trip to Morocco from July 3 to 5.
This trip is seen as symbolizing a new stage in the warming process of relations between Paris and Rabat after a two-year period of strained diplomatic ties.
Attal will travel to Morocco from July 3 to 5, accompanied by several of his ministers. This visit is seen as a possible prelude to a future state visit by Emmanuel Macron to Morocco.
Since February, there has been a flurry of diplomatic and economic activity between the two countries. On February 26, French Minister of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, inaugurated this series of high-level visits with an official trip to Rabat, where he met with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. In April, French ministers of Foreign Trade, Finance, Agriculture, and Interior also visited Morocco to meet with their Moroccan counterparts.
For the record, the possibility of a new high-level Morocco-France meeting was discussed on April 25 in Rabat between Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and French Minister of Finance, Bruno Le Maire. The last session of this Moroccan-French partnership framework took place in December 2019 in Paris.
